What started out as a journey for creating a commuter friendly cycling helmet, has turned into a vision to create the world's safest head protection.

With over £2 million on Research and Development and over a decade dedicated to improving head safety, Hedkayse produces long lasting protective equipment for the sports we love. Future proofed design is at the core of what we do.

The journey so far

2013

Initial idea and R&D

The initial idea for a commuter bike helmet was established, leading to the start of research and development into designs and materials. Over 6,000 tests were conducted over five years to create a new category of polyurethane foam that remains stable at body temperature.

2015

Crowdfunding and research

A market test was conducted through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, attracting 1,200 backers.

Design research underwent over 50 iterations. Patents were granted (GB2541290) in the EU with US filing completed. Design registrations (003462928-001, 002) and trademarks were granted in the UK and EU, with US filings completed. Patent filings on components remain pending.

2018

Enkayse® finalised

The Enkayse material was finalised, offering impact protection across a wide temperature range while being incredibly robust.

2019

Launch of cycling helmet

We launched our cycle helmets to the public. A unique protective and folding design, with manufacturing based in the UK.

2022

Rugby development

We started the year with further generations of the Enkayse® material that could be skinned moulded into complex shapes. We then met former international rugby legend, Tim Stimpson, and embarked on our journey to create a rugby headguard, under the Hedkayse brand.
